URBANITE

( LONDON / UK )

Formed in London in 1994 by founder members ( D.ESCOTT / J.HOOKENS ). URBANITE were one of the first acts to instigate the URBCOM record label. Mixing industrial dance sounds with techno-breakbeats, lyrics and rap. URBANITE released only 2 official record EP releases in their brief time together entitled " Bullet-in " and the high-profile MCD single " Off-World Tourist " featuring the established Ladbrook Grove homeboy-rapper JC001 ( Courtesy of ANXIOUS / POLYDOR RECORDS ) before splitting up in late 1998 with ( HOOKENS ) going on to form JERICO ONE> and ( D.ESCOTT ) going his own way with AWAX a few years after. Other band and studio members included guitarist ALAN RIGGS from the established post-punk band from Leeds DELTA 5 and major label band THE MOTHERS. Not forgetting MEGULE DE MELO on guitars, programming and the on/off bass player from somewhere up North called STABY.

Originally callled FACELESS INC the duo later changed their name to URBANITE a name thought up by a close friend of the band's who went by the name of PATRICK HENRY a graphic designer and music-artist from Brixton via Dublin. Altough well-established on the London electronic scene URBANITE never played a live show in there 4 years together but instead relied on videos and images and on-line exposure to promote their music. Couresty of ROCK STAR here in the UK and visual-artist ANNA BLOM from Gotland in Sweden who helped produce a few of their videos including " Bullet-In" and " Off-World Tourist".

High-Points include working with the rapper JC001 and getting interviewd by the Legendary Stud Brother ( Domonic Wills ) in the MELODY MAKER circa '97.
